Travel from Seville to Madrid

I'd like to know if anyone has thoughts on these plans. After a day and a half in Seville, we plan to take the very first train out of Seville at 6:15 a.m., arriving in Madrid at 9:00. Then take the Metro to the airport, hopefully arriving by 10:00 for a flight back to the U.S. at noon. Are we cutting it too close? The alternative would be to leave Seville the night before and stay at a hotel near the airport. Thanks for your input!

Ya !!! it probably is too close. Most international flight like to see you three hours in advance. You just don't have any margin for error. While most train, especially the AVE, run fast and stay on schedule. Last year we were on a high speed train (another country) and suddenly it came to a stop in the middle of nowhere or least nowhere we knew sat for about 30 mins and then took off. By the time we got to our destination we were 45 mins behind. So problems can occur unexpectedly. If you are going to try it, I would take a taxi from the train station. The metro requires two changes.

What are the consequences if you miss your flight? That's the risk you're taking. Personally, I wouldn't do it. BTW, I've concluded that when I start describing a trip in terms of fractional days here or there ("after a day and a half in Seville..."), it's usually a sign that I'm trying to squeeze in too much. That's just me, though, YMMV.

We faced the same question (although returning from Cordoba), and concluded that it would be a lot less stressful to spend the last night in Madrid. This is for a 2 pm flight so we had more leeway, but still felf uncomfortable reaching the airport the same morning.

Great insights. Thank you very much. I think we will return to Madrid the previous night. And good observation about trying to squeeze too much in. You're right!

One more thought, don't stay out near the airport. Stay right in town and enjoy the night in Madrid. You'll have plenty of time to take the metro the next morning.
