Travel from Sevilla to Evora

Planning to travel in September from Sevilla Spain to Evora Portugal and I can't seem to find a train. Is there a direct route or does one go thru Merida? Also is there a good company that handles this since Rail Europe is so expensive and limited in the info it provides. Thanks for the help

Yes, Rail Europe is not the way to go. The best place to search for train schedules and routes is the Bahn website: http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en. This will have information for all of Europe, but does not have prices for trains outside of Germany. The Spanish rail site is RENFE, http://tinyurl.com/255mll6. The Portuguese rail site is CP, http://tinyurl.com/g7m4t. You're discovering the major problem with combining Spain and Portugal in one trip. We in the US think of them as practically one country, and assume that it's quite easy to get from one to another. But, they actually have very minimal transit links between them. The other problem is that Portugal's rail system covers a few areas of the country well (such as the Lisbon-Coimbra-Porto axis), and has little or no access to many other parts of the country. Buses are the main transit within Portugal, and unfortunately there's not one national company. I don't know where to find bus information, but someone else here probably does. I hope you find a workable plan!

Bits and pieces for the puzzle: Two rail lines go east out of Evora, but both stop well short of the border. The northern line might just be freight since I can't picture a pax station on that side of town. I've seen non-tour buses headed west out of Badajoz, but don't remember on which side of the border. There is rail pax service from Merida and Elvas and bus service from Elvas to Evora. Rail does run between Evora and Lisbon. You can get from Faro to Evora without going through Lisbon (the line goes through Beja). I have no idea how to link any of the above together. Absent driving, I think it'd be a lot faster and easier to just fly from Seville to Lisbon and take the train out to Evora.
