Travel from Rome to Venice

We will be in Rome at the end of our trip in Aug and have to fly out of Venice. I've been looking at either Ryan Air or Easy Jet to get us back to Venice. We are looking for a reliable source of transportation so we make sure we make our flight out of Venice. Do you have any opinions of both of airlines or would train be better? HELP.

The most reliable transportation would be a taxi. About 35 euros. There is also an early bus that goes to Venice airport, but it depends what time your flight is. We missed the bus then the next one was an hour later so we had to take the taxi.
I would fly from rome to venice. Train would take a few good hours.

Hi Angie,

It sounds to me like you probably want to spend the night in Venice. By train, it takes 4.5 hours to travel from Rome to Venice. By air, the flying time is only one hour, but a quick search was unable to pull up any flights earlier than 8:30 am, meaning that you would not be landing before 9:35 am. As you said that your flight is early morning, you probably want to be on the ground nearby in advance.

Ryanair uses outlying airports. If you fly, go with easyJet. However, I recommend the train. It's 4.5 hours on EuroStar Italia trains from city center to city center. No need to get to the station early. No security checks. No paying for transportation to and from airports. A relaxing ride--and a minimal carbon footprint.

Tim is correct. Ryan Air uses Treviso airport which is not really near Venice Marco Polo. They don't fly out of Rome either. They fly out of Ciampino Airport which is some distance away.

The train would be the most dependable and flexible and probably faster especially if you are already in Rome.
