We are a family of four traveling. We'll be going from Prague to Cesky Krumlov. Then, when we leave Cesky Krumlov, we go on to Vienna. For those transfers, are we better off on trains, or using busses or another conveyance. It looks like there are several shuttle services from Cesky Krumlov to other places.
I have taken the train from Prague to Ceske Budejovice and then a bus to Cesky Krumlov.
You can take a bus back to Ceske Budejovice and to Wien (Vienna) it is a combination of bus and train.
The German DB site will show you the schedules.
I am sure you have probably already done your trip, but if not, we just did the same thing you were trying to do. We had global eurail passes an no extra money to spare, so we took the train, transferring at Ceske Budejovice. We left Ceske Krumlov mid morning and got to Vienna in the middle of the afternoon. So it can be done completely on the train. However, the fastest way that we found was definitely using shuttle services. Pension Lobo, where we stayed, and Pension Danny, next door, both are recommended Rick Steves, both run shuttles and I think I remember them being between 300 and 400 koruna per person.
Hi Kelly, I just did your trip a couple of weeks ago. Not certain if you are flying into Prague but here is a good choice from the airport direct to your hotel. "Prague Ariport Transfers", Private car, four people-560 Czk total-they waited an hour for our late flight. State side phone 1 800 870 888. The drivers speak English and will take Dollars, Pounds, Euros as well as Kourna. From Prague to CK - your best, fastest and cheapest journey is by bus from the Florenc bus station, three hour trip. Buy your ticket in the station early - 195 Koruna, your will get a reserved seat (some people stood - ouch). Departs at 9 am arrive in the CK open air bus parking lot at 12 noon, 15 min walk into town. From CK I took the "Sebastian Tour and transport" Van from my hotel direct to my hotel in Vienna, 1090 Koruna. Three hours and 15 Min. WWW.sebastianck-tours.com All three of these trips were timely, professional and cost effective. Be aware that I tried to get a cab from the CK bus stop into town - no luck. I pack light so that really was not a problem but if you are carring lots of weight your can go to the bus office and call for one. Cheers
Keep in mind this will require an overnight stay in Cesky Krumlov regardless how you do it. I would use Student Agency Bus for Prague to Cesky Krumlov. Website: http://www.studentagency.cz .
