What is the most efficient way to travel from Positano to Bolzano in the Dolomites. On a time constraint. Is there an overnight train? Thank you for any information.
You should avoid the crappy night domestic trains in Italy. You can go from Positano to Salerno, and from there get a high-speed to Bologna (there are some direct services and many others with a change in Napoli), and then a fast train that goes up the line to Bolzano. It will take the better part of a day.
Thank you for your help
Carolyn, If you travel by rail from Salerno, one of the easiest and quickest trips will be a departure at 07:12, arriving Bolzano at 14:31 (time 7H:19M, one change at Bologna Centrale, reservations compulsory). There's a similar departure at 09:12, arriving at 17:30, and many other departures with more changes and longer travel times. You can check all the details on either the bahn.de or trenitalia.com websites. The only issue may be the Bus connection from Positano to Salerno, in terms of connecting with the trains. I haven't checked the schedules, so not sure of departure times. I've heard that the Buses can be crowded in that area at some times of the year, so it would be a good idea to get your ticket well in advance. As always, DON'T forget to validate! Happy travels!
Thank you Vernon. As a matter of fact after doing more reading we have decided to stay in Salerno and do day trips as well as The Walk of the Gods. Five days total. Should be great fun! Thanks again.
