What is the best way to get from Nazare, PT, to Santiago de Compostela, Spain. We will be there at the end of September 2013.
Sorry about the vagueness of that request. I realized it a few minutes after I sent it, but was busy doing other things. We will not have a car or a helicopter either, drat!! We will be traveling by bus and/or train. I realize we will probably have to leave from Nazare by bus for some interim bus or train station and then connect to an intercountry bus or train to travel further north to Santiago de Compostela. So,what is the recommendation for getting from Nazare to the interim city, and what bus or train lines would be best to go from there to Santiago (least time, fewest connections).
P.S. And what "interim" or connecting city would be best.
What do you want from 'best'? Are you thinking this is a day trip? Do you have to return to a point in Portugal? Best time would be just over four hours non stop in a car. If you are time wealthy I could probably direct you much or all of the way by public transport.
I always think the "best" way to get from point A to point B is via private helicopter. Especially if someone else is paying for it. If it's good enough for presidents and popes, it's good enough for me. You may want to provide a bit more info about what exactly your definition of "best" is.
As I said - 'I could probably direct you much or all of the way'. My stab at this with least number of changes is:- Nazaré to Valado train station by taxi (or local bus?). Valado to Oporto (Campanhã) with two changes I think - train schedules http://www.cp.pt/cp/displayPage.do?vgnextoid=87cbd5abe2a74010VgnVCM1000007b01a8c0RCRD You will have to metro or taxi to the bus station for Oporto to Santiago by bus with
http://www.alsa.es/en/buy-and-schedules/international/?searchType=international I see this as about ten hours journey time. Break it up and overnight in Oporto. Hope this helps.
Thanks so much for the info. This is the itinerary I was coming up with, but I had no idea how long it would take. I've been searching again this morning. So-What about by bus all the way, beginning at Nazare (by bus) to Coimbra, then from Coimbra by international (ALSA)bus to Santiago? It doesn't save much time, but it seems to avoid some of the station changes and the arrival is earlier. (We are geezers each with a small suitcase, so the less station changes the better.)
Well, there you go - presumably the http://www.rede-expressos.pt/ bus at 0625 or 0810 from Nazaré to get you to Coimbra for the one journey a day with Alsa at 1015 which will take maybe a couple of hours off the journey time.
Thanks for saying thanks. A rare occasion on any forum.
Thanks so much for the input. I've checked farther, and I think the Rede Expressos bus from Nazare to Oporto will work, then the ALSA intercountry bus to Santiago. I appreciate your help.
