Travel from Porto, Portugal to Sarria on the Camino de Santiago

We want to start the Camino de Santiago walk in Sarria and are trying to figure out if it is possible to get there from Porto, Portugal via trains or buses. Rick Steve's insert map in the Spain and Portugal book shows major rail lines between the points, but I can not access schedules or even verify this as a possibility.

Congratulations on your upcoming Camino. I walked it in May and June of 2010 from St Jean to Santiago, it took me 33 days to complete, the segment you're doing is very popular with pilgrims that don't have to time for the entire 790 km from St Jean and you still qualify you your Compostela!, It is a beautiful part of the Camino, my favorite part, I really enjoyed Galicia. I don't have any specific details on the train from Porto to Sarria but I can point you in the direction of some good website with message boards dedicated to the Camino. I'll also PM you with my email address if you have any specific questions, but the message boards I'll link with this message are really detailed and cover all aspects of the Camino and the various routes, travel, you name it. It might be easy to take the train to Santiago from Porto and a bus to Sarria. But here are the links http://www.caminodesantiago.me.uk/ http://www.santiago-compostela.net// And if you're interested in reading it, I have a blog I kept during my walk, it's http://www.bhcamino2010.blogspot.com
