Travel from Paris to Venice

Need some advice: should I go by train or by plane from Paris to Venice? How long is each take (by plane? by train?)
If I need to book the flight for it, should I book it ahead or wait until I am in Paris? Thanks in advance.

By night train it takes 13 hours. It's about 1:40 via airplane.

I would suggest booking ahead for either. You can get nice special fares on www.tgv-europe.com and for the European budget airlines, the farther out you book, the cheaper the fare. The closer into the travel date, the higher the fare.

If you decide night-train, book early or you'll wind up having to go via Nice with a several hour layover because the direct Paris/Venice night-train was sold out. Now Nice is OK; but I won't procrastinate buying tickets again -my wife assures me of that...

WK,

For that particular trip, travel by budget airline is by far the better choice. However, a few points to consider.

First, try to find an airline that leaves from CDG as transportation to the airport is easier. Orly is not a bad option either, but Beauvais is quite distant from Paris.

Second, a few points to note about budget airlines. Tickets are usually non-refundable and non-changeable once booked. They often use a "sliding scale", so the price of tickets will increase as the flight fills up. Baggage limits are also VERY strict with most, so be sure to PACK LIGHT.

Easyjet would be one airline to consider. Using an arbitrary date of 29 July, they have flights from Paris / CDG to Venice / Marco Polo for as low as €24.49, which includes all taxes and charges. Check their website for the details.

Happy travels!
