Travel from Paris to Germany

I will be in Paris for approximately 2 weeks in October to teach some seminars. My schedule is free the following week and I would love to travel to Berlin, Munich and fly home out of Frankfurt. I was thinking about traveling by train rather than plane to provide more flexibility. I would appreciate suggestions on whether to purchase a pass (and which one) or point to point tickets?

I would most likely go point-to-point, if I were you. Lee is really good on giving specifics. I didn't find the passes to give me a better deal with any of my scenarios.

Thanks, Cate, for the introduction. . . . . ¶ It looks like you will be in Paris a while and will be able to commit to a specific date and train to Munich. Go to the German Rail website, http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en, and put in Paris, Munich and your actual travel date. You should be able to find "Europa Spezial" Saving Fares for as low as €39 pP. These are like airline tickets, date and time specific and non-refundable, but that shouldn't be a problem, right. You can get the same thing (although as low as €29) for Munich to Berlin. . . . . ¶ If you don't already have your airline tickets, I would suggest you try to book out of Berlin to save the cost of Berlin to Frankfurt. Nevertheless, you can also get Sparpreis fares from Berlin to Frankfurt, but it's a popular route, and the lowest fares sell out quickly.
