Travel from Paris

We are thinking of going to France and want to spend most of our time in the French Alps. How easy is the travel by train from Paris? Thanks, Kim

Hi Kim.. We have never gone by train, bur car travel in France and the Alps is great . It enables you to see many smaller places that you cannot see by train. We love all of France and have been there many times and always rented a car plus we take our own GPS.

Train travel is very easy and convenient. When I'm planning a trip, I use the Deutsch Bahn site to determine the duration of a trip, how many changes I would need to make (many stops only give a few minutes to change trains but that's usually because the next train track is close by)and departure/arrival times. (Deutsch Bahn site is under Rick's "Favorite Links" above.)
Hope this helps!

Paris is the hub of the French rail system, which makes it generally easy to get from Paris to other places.

That said, mountain trains are slow. I have heard that there are convenient shuttle services to Chamonix from the Geneva airport. If you are headed there, you might want to compare that to rail for one leg of your trip.
