help. I had the idea to go to Rome to Sweden to Liverpool then London in THAT order and its going to be more expensive that i had planned.. I naievely thought i could go by train?? the order is pretty flexible. what is a practical itinerary? what is the best way to get from one place to the next? without 6 train changes in the middle of the night??
1) From Rome to Sweden, it is going to be cheaper (and much shorter) to fly. Where in Sweden? 2) From Sweden to England, you will also want to fly. Again, the route will depend on what city in Sweden you are departing from. 3) from Liverpool to London, take the train.
thanks for the response.. we are going from Rome to Stockholm and then Stockholm to London.. now I just need to know which airport in London is easiest access to Euston train station, But lowest flight price is of course my priority..
would taking the train from Rome, to Paris, to Germany to Stockholm be absolutely a waste of time? it would take over 24 hours wouldnt it? UGHH i am not even excited about the trip anymore I am Stressed out and feel like i am pushing a pea up a hill with my nose... it feels like its impossible with out spending a fortune..
thank you Richard.. I am SO unsure of what to do.. would a rail pass be of use to us, or would it be a waste of money? on the EURO rail webside that i get directed to it does not show UK as being a country that you can use the "pass" for?? I thought I was pretty capable of planning this trip but i am in over my head.. you guys are some real professionals at this..
thanks for your help
The main airport for Stockholm is Arlanda (ARN). The flight from Rome is about 3 hours. I know SAS flies this route and that is the airline I would choose. Ryanair flies between Rome CIA and "Stockholm" (really Nyköping) Skavsta. Be aware that Skavsta airport is about an hour and a half from Stockholm by bus. Also be aware that Ryanair charges extra fees for just about everything (including buying your ticket with a credit card) so even if this option looks like it is the cheapest, make sure you add in all the extra fees before you bite to make sure it is really cheaper than a flight on SAS. There might be other airlines that fly between Rome and Stockholm, but I have not looked.I'd check kayak.com to search for options. Use the code ROM for Rome and STO for Stockholm to check the various airports. I would not take the train unless you really want to stop and spend time in all those places along the way. The train will cost you more than a flight. You should be able to find a flight for $100 to $200.
As far as which airport is easiest for Euston ... London City Airport (LCY) is closest, but Heathrow (LHR), Gatwick (LGW) and Stansted would all work. Avoid flying into Luton. When you search for flights, use the code LON for London to show all the London airports.
thank you everyone... i have a plan!!!
