Any tips on driving from Munich to Cuneo . Any pitfalls?
It's a long-ish (8h actual driving time) but beautiful drive. Actually, there are two options that take roughly the same time, you can choose. (1) - A96 all the way to Austria, then entering Switzerland and driving via Chur and the San Bernardino tunnel to Bellizona, where you join the Swiss A2 highway to Chiasso, then Milano, Torino (all by ring roads, no city traffic needed at all) and the highway all the way to Cuneo. (2) - a double Alpine crossing via Rosenheim, Innsbruck, then the Brenner Autobahn to Brennero (Italy), the stunning and impressive A23 all the way to A4, then a short hop on A4 to Brescia where you take A21 to Asti (avoiding major urban areas of Milano and Bergamo), then joining the highway (small sectors still incomplete but totally doable) to Cuneo. Option (1) requires Austrian and Swiss vignettes
Option (2) requires only Austrian vignette but has more expensive tolls Option (2) has "more interesting landscape" around the highway, particularly the section between Rosenburg-Innsbruck-Bolzano-Trento. Option (1) goes through less populated areas up to Lugano. So it's really your call. What I'd do? Check the weather on the evening of leaving München and taking whatever road has better forecast.
