Am planning a trip to the Cinque Terre in September of 2011. Am trying to find out how to get from the Malpensa airport to Monterosso or Vernazza. Is there a train or bus? What is the travel time? How do I find out where to board them and what the placard on the bus or train will say? Thx for any help you can provide! Gitta
You'll have to take the train or bus into Milan's Central train station. There you will get a train to either Genoa or La Spezia. From those cities, you can get a train into the 5 Cinque Terre towns.
Very easy to do. Buy your ticket at the airport train station to Monterosso or Vernazza from Malpensa. There are several runs with just one stop in Milan Centrale. Here's a link to see examples. http://orario.trenitalia.com/b2c/nppPriceTravelSolutions.do?stazin=Milano+Malpensa&stazout=Monterosso&datag=30&datam=03&dataa=2011&timsh=09&timsm=00&car=0&stazin_r=Staz_DA&stazout_r=Staz_A&datag_r=01&datam_r=01&dataa_r=2011&timsh_r=01&timsm_r=00&trencounter=0&nreq=5&solotreno=0&npag=1&sort=0&trencounter_r=0&nreq_r=5&solotreno_r=0&npag_r=1&sort_r=0&traintype=&traintype=&lang=en&channel=tcom Please don't try to reserve close to your plane arrival time. International flights are often late. Just wail until you get there. Your first train is a Regionale and no reservations are permitted anyway. You buy your ticket and get on. Your second train will most likely be an IC train which is slower and makes more stops than the Eurostars.
Be careful to look at your check in time in the CT. Those aren't high-speed rail trains, so expect a "leisurely" trip. Make sure you leave plenty of time; most places will charge you a fair amount of euros for a late check in.
