Travel from London to Windsor

We're traveling to London in October and are considering a day trip to Windsor. My questions is - would our travelcard include the train from Paddington to Windsor? Or is that separate? I read that the travelcard includes the tube, busses, and National Rails.

The travelcard includes national rail but Windsor is outside the area covered. The fastest way is by train from Paddington. This is a suburban rail service so you will not get any discount by booking in advance.

Thanks so much. I'm trying to decide if it is worth it to fit into our itinerary. We only have 3 days and thought if the travel was included we might as well go.

The travelcard only works on the underground and city buses. It does not work on National Rail, nor Heathrow Connect, Express, etc either.

Tami,

I could be mistaken here but I believe that the travelcard does work on National rail within the London zones. I know that we bought National Rail ones to take advantage of the 2-for-1 deals and used them on the tube with no problems. But I don't believe that a travelcard will get you to Windsor.

Yea I was thinking about the travelcard I put on my Oyster card. Most rail stations have no readers for those. She didnt mention if she was getting a paper card or the Oyster card. But yea from what I read, it only covers within the zone of your card, so you really cant go far on national rail on a travelcard.

You can use an Oyster Travelcard on suburban rail whether the station has readers or not. It's the prepaid Oyster cards that can't be used unless the station has a reader.

I had a 7 day travel card on my Oyster card. The man said I would have to pay more to go past zone 2 since my card was only for zones 1 and 2. i.e. I had to pay more to go back and forth to Heathrow. So I suppose you can use it but you have to pay more.
