My daughter and I are flying to London in October and want to travel to Rome. Is there a best train route to take? I know you can take the Chunnel to Paris, but then, what are some great cities to stop in for a day or so on the way to Rome? Or is it better to fly London to Rome?
Jennifer,
I think it is better to fly to Rome. You can easily find a reasonably priced flight. The train ride would be 15 hours or more. The flight is about 2.5 hours.
How many days will you be in Europe? If you have time to not shortchange either London or Rome, then I certainly would include Paris. Take the Eurostar from London to Paris. Fly from Paris to Rome. If you don't have that much time, then skip Paris and fly from London to Rome. The search engine www.skyscanner.com will show you all your airline choices, budget airlines as well as national carriers. The sooner you book Eurostar tickets and/or plane tickets, the cheaper the fare will be.
Sorry, I missed the part about Paris. If you have time to see Paris it is definitely worth doing what Tim suggested.
We flew London to Rome 4 yrs ago...from Heathrow...with Alitalia...was about $80 for each ticket...which for me is a great price...considering what it costs us to get there!
