Looking for recent info on getting from Vilnius or Kaunas, LT to Gdansk, Poland in Sep, 2012. Would like to rent a car as soon as we can get into Poland but would consider train or bus to Gdansk if not too time consuming.

Train from Kaunas, I think, to Suwalki,Poland. Then train to Gdansk (another short journey This route avoids the hassle of crossing into Russia, as there are no visas at border and a visa is required-even to pass thru without stopping in Russia You can make trip by car and bus as well, just be sure your route avoids either Russia or Belarus, as both are nightmares of bureaucracy.
