Hello,
Traveling to Milan in September, plan to take a train to Lake Como and stay in Varenna for 4 nights. Next stop Lake Bled, Slovenia. What is the best way to do this? Rent a car and drive? or train to Ljubljana and then another to Lake Bled? We plan to stay in Lake Bled for 4 nights, then back to Milan to return home. Thanks. Karen
A car looks like your best choice. According to the DB website (http://www.bahn.de/i/view/USA/en/index.shtml) the train is 30-40 hours with a minimum of 5 and up to 7 changes. By car (www.viamichelin.com) it is 351 miles and takes about 6.5 hours.
Thanks!
I find that train time hard to believe. Seems like if you can get to Venice you can either take a 4 hour train/bus via Villach to Lake Bled. Car will probably still be faster but not by 24 hours.
Milan to Lake Bled is 7-8 hours by train when you go to the DB website.
