Travel from Lake Bled Slovenia to Vienna

Is it better to take a train from Lake Bled to Vienna or to fly? From what I've found so far, it appears that a flight from Ljublana to Vienna is about an hour flight and 100 EU. Whereas, a train from Lake Bled to Vienna involves several connections and would take around 5-6 hours. Is there a quicker way to travel by train to Vienna or am I better off flying?

Thanks much!!

Considering airport 2 hr prior check in, the fact that both airports are out of town, and you have to get to/from them, definitely not worth it just to save time. 1h flight +2hrs before, +1hr each way to/thru airports = 5-6hrs in the end.

The drive is 5-6 hrs, with traffic and a break, so if the train is meeting that, it's not wasting any time at all.

If you don't want all the connections, I'd think about the plane, but time wise, they're all pretty much the same.

The train portion thru the alps is somewhat nice.

PS - Jessenice and Villach are not huge stations, so changing trains is fairly easy. FYI.

Thank you for the great tips! I thought I read that the travel time to the Ljublana airport from Lake Bled is a half hour, but it makes sense that it would be an hour. I did not realize that the airport in Vienna was an hour out of town.

So considering those items and that the train stations aren't too large for transfer, I think will stick with our original plan to take a train from Bled to Vienna...it's even more enticing if the train ride is beautiful as well. Some of my favorite parts of our trip to Italy a couple years ago was taking the train through the Tuscan countryside.

Thanks for the great advice! One last question, are Slovenian trains known for being on time? We do have one transfer that is only ten minutes long.

Thanks again!

Slovenian trains are usually well on time, and Jessenice is a super small station. Villach is a bit more of a transfer point, but not bad. Train ride thru the Alps portion is very nice.
