travel from Italy to Interlaken

Hi,

I will be doing the Rome, Florence, Cinque Terre, and perhaps Venice rounds in September. Afterwards, I plan on going to Interlaken/Gimmewald in the Swiss Alps.

I've been having some trouble figuring out the best way to do this though as Venice is a little out of the way. This is actually why I am thinking about skipping Venice so that I can take a more direct route up to Interlaken.

Currently, my plan is to take the train from Florence to Berne, then bus to Interlaken.

Is this the best route, or is there a cheaper/faster/more convenient route that I am missing out.

Thanks for the help. It'll be my first time in Europe.

From Florence to Interlaken it's best to take a train to Spiez and then connect to an Interlaken bound train. If you go all the way to Bern you're going to have to backtrack to get to Interlaken. There is no bus service between Bern and Interlaken...just the train. You can check schedules at the Swiss Rail site:
