We want to see both Italy and Greece. We are spending two weeks + in Italy and one week in greece but are confused about the best way to get to greece. I looked at the ferry and they are very expensive and overnight travel. We have some leeway on which cities to travel out of Italy and into greece. Any suggestions or help?
Another option is to fly. I flew last summer from Athens to Venice for a cost of approximately $130 for a 2-3 hour flight. Use a european flight search engine like skyscanner.net or europebyair.com to find the various options. There several small, regional airlines in europe which are low-cost.
Good Travels.
Having done the ferry, I would shy away from it today. First you would need to get to Bari to catch the ferry, which in a two week trip, would be low on my list to visit, and arrive in Patras, again a low on the list place to visit in a week visit to Greece. Ferries are not cruise ships, pretty utilitarian transport, and yes, expensive if you book a cabin. Basically you lose two half days and a night in travel. Look at www.aegeanair.com; they have low cost flights, both through them and partner airlines. Travel would only be a half day and get you right to Athens from a significant city in Italy.
Thank you so much for the response. You both confirmed my basic instinct/knowledge. I think we will get much more for our trip by flying.
