Travel from Italy to France by train

2 Questions:
We are 3 travelers spending time in Vernazza, Cingue Terre in July. Heading out to the French Riviera and possibly staying in Aix-en-Provence or Marseilles. WHICH TRAIN IS THE BEST POSSIBLE ONE TO TAKE? FROM GENOA?

You can take a train directly from Vernazza to Aix-en-Provence. Of course, you will have to change trains 3-4 times along the way. Unfortunately, this is not a high-speed corridor run. Most of the trains will be regionales or locals. You're looking at 12-15hrs of train time. CLICK HERE to see a typical train schedule. Note that fewer trains stop a Vernazza than Monterosso or Riomaggiore which is why you see some train changes at those locations.

The best all-purpose train timetable site is www.bahn.de because it covers virtually all of Europe and will give you routes through several neighboring countries.

Click on the drop-down flag menu for English. Enter Vernazza as your departure point and either Marseille or Aix-en-Provence as your arrival point. After you get summary timetables, click on the arrow to the left of each departure time to see the connecting points. Do the same for either Marseille or Aix-en-Provence to Lourdes.
