What is my best bet getting from Istanbul Turkey to Plovdiv Bulgaria. Anyone do this lately. Rail or Bus, I don't drive.

I went from Sofia/Plovdiv/Istanbul this past June. The train is overnight and has not been cleaned since
the late 70s. It`s cheap and takes 13 hours. That includes a 2 hour stop at the border for passport check and you must buy a visa at 2 am.Not much fun.
The bus takes longer but it leaves Sofia in the morning. Istanbul is great.Do not pass it up.
