I am trying to travel from Florence, Italy to Fussen (to see the Neuschwanstein Castle) then to Nuremburg, Germany. The trouble I am having is finding a reliable transportation website. I have tried www.bahn.de but the route information is not yet available and I always struggle with understanding the website. I need to secure my travel itinerary as soon as possible so I can start booking my flights and hotel accommodations. Any recommendations or suggestions?
I recommend you to fly to München and then travel from there on. Firenze and Fussen are separated by very long train trips. There are multiple trains a day between München to either Fussen and Nürnburg.
If you cannot find the timetables on bahn.de, then you are looking too far ahead. Timetables are changed twice a year and new ones will go into effect in mid June. Changes, if any, are likely to vary only a few minutes from what you will find if you enter a date within the next few weeks. The only thing you need to pay attention to is the day of the week. Schedules on Saturdays and/or Sundays are not always the same as on weekdays. I agree with Andre about flying to Munich and taking the train from there to Füssen (Fuessen). Air Dolomiti is a budget airline that flies directly between Florence and Munich. Booked well in advance, tickets can be quite cheap. FYI, the German spelling is Nürnberg. Acceptable alternatives are Nuernberg and Nuremberg.
