Travel from England to Ireland

What is the cheapest way to get from Heathrow airport to Dingle Peninsula of Ireland. We are traveling in September 08.

Will you be renting a car in Ireland? Or will you need to get from an airport (Cork, Shannon, or Kerry) to Dingle by public transportation?

Carol,

The "cheapest way" would probably be via one of the budget airlines, however you will need to travel to Stanstead or Luton for the flight. The cost will depend on how early you book, and also to a certain extent how much luggage you have (and the weight). Check RyanAir for flights from England to Dublin or Shannon.

After arrival in Ireland, you didn't indicate whether you would be hiring a car or using other means to get to the Dingle peninsula. Could you clarify?

Cheers!

We are trying to go the cheapest way, mass transit or rent a car. We will have access to a car in Dingle. Wondering if we can take a train from Heathrow to Northern England and then take a Ferry to Ireland? Could we then take a train to or bus to Dingle? Or is flying the cheapest way.
Thanks to all for info, keep it coming.

We traveled by train from London to Dublin a few years ago. I recommend it; you dont have to worry about the ferry. Do a google search for RR travel between Heathrow and the town you want to go go.

From what I read, flying is not always the cheapest when you consider taxi to and from airports.

We flew from Dublin to LHR with BMI. we booked r\early (i beleive about 3-4 months) and our fare was uner 100 USD.We didnt have to pay for checked luggage. I beleive the ferry takes a lot of time and i assume the traim\n wouldnt be too cheap as it is London so it might be worth it to look into flying, especially since you will save so much time. From my experience, the extra money was well worth it... especially when it saves you a whole day of travel!

Stay at Heathrow and fly Aer Lingus to Cork. Departures are at 09:45, 12:05, and 14:15. Fares are as low as £4 (plus taxes and fees). Take the bus from the Cork airport to Dingle. Departures from the airport are at 10:50, 11:45, 12:40, and 14:39. (Service may be less frequent on Sundays.) See the Journey Planner at Bus Eireann.
