If you're packing light, take the RER B to Gare du Nord. Take the underground connecting walkway to the Magenta RER station. Take the RER E to Haussmann Saint-Lazare. Fare: 8.20€. Keep your ticket to make the transfer and to exit at the last station.

Hi, Is the RER underground or train? I am confused about the Metro vs train travel? We will take the St Lazarre to Val De Reuill and back, is this train or underground?

The RER is the suburban train system. Trains run on the surface until they get close to Paris and underground in the city like the Metro does.
Gare Saint-Lazare is one of the six mainline train stations in Paris. Trains are operated by SNCF, the French national rail system, and run on the surface.
