My family of 4 is arriving at CDF airport at 11 am on a Friday and going to Hotel Odeon Saint Germian, what do people recommend for getting to hotel. Reading other travel site, some to say public transportation and others taxi or van, with four the cost adds up quickly on public transportation.
You are correct in thinking that for a family of 4, a taxi would be the best choice. Just make sure that you don't get "tricked" and get your taxi only from an official taxi rank.
Taxi with 4. Fixed price of 50 euro to the right bank 55 euro to the left bank. Especially if you are coming off a transatlantic flight nice to go to the taxi rank with your bags and not have to figure out the public transit and manage bags etc.. with our family of 4 a normal cab was fine with one carryon bag each. If you have more they have bigger van type cabs. As the other poster said, go to the official taxi stand only.
We just did the RER B with a family of 4, it was easy! Now maybe with little ones it would be a bit more of a challenge (ours are 14/18), so we just had to deal with cranky jet lagged kids.
For four unless you have child fares, the trip by RER B will cost around €42. By taxi, it will be 55€ and will be door to door. You make the call on whether that convenience is worth around 13€. If you take the train, be sure to secure your belongings; arriving jet lagged passengers whose belongings are not secured are very attractive to sneak thieves (pickpockets). You will have to walk about 8 minutes to the hotel from the RER station. You could change to Metro Line 10 there but by the time you walk to the connection, you would have been at the hotel if you walked. By the way, you chose a great hotel. Our family of four stayed there in 2014 for five days and loved it. We took a taxi from the airport and we were arriving from Morocco with no jet lag.
Taxi is easiest; after a trans-Atlantic flight and with 4 people, take a taxi. I traveled solo to Paris and it still suited me to take a taxi to my hotel in the 6th arrondissement.
I'm going on the Best of Paris September 3rd. I'm travelling solo and flying from Vancouver, Canada, arriving on the morning of day 1 of the tour. Going to the Hotel Duquesne Eiffel. Will take the hotel shuttle for 45 euros. Well worth is to avoid any hassle. I'll be tired and possibly a little cranky on landing. Need to get myself in a better mood before I meet my tour mates! Don't want to be one of the infamous grumps.
Taxi for 4 people. 55 euros fixed rate -- barely more than the cost of going on the RER, and WAY easier (not to mention door-to-door). There's no question!
Thanks so much for the advice, it seems taxi is the winner
