travel from budapest to split?

Hi all,

We are trying to get from Budapest to Split.
We would like to arrive in Split on Friday 6/30.

I realize my mistake was in thinking the overnight trains traveled every day.
But I know now they only go on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday.

Anyone know if there are any other overnight options?
Or any independent travel services that are reasonably priced for 5 people?

Another option is to go from Budapest to Zagreb, spend the night, and then go from Zagreb to Split.
But even that seems difficult to navigate.
Any help in advance would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Lora

Go to Google Flights and put in your travel date to see what flights are available. There are no nonstop flights so you are transit through Vienna, Munich etc.

I know a guy. I priced to Zagreb once several year ago and I seem to remember it being under 1000 euro. For 5 people (if my memory is correct) that would be a pretty decent price.

FlixBus has a direct (no transfer) bus departing Budapest at 7:30p on Jun 30th arriving in Split the next morning at 4:55a. I doubt if the seats recline so expect a night of very little sleep if any at all. This bus also departs at 7:30p on Jun 29th.

Although the time is far from ideal, there is a direct flight (Ryan Air) on 6/30 at 9pm from Budapest to Zadar, which is a few hours north of Split - a 2.5 hour bus ride away.

On 6/30 early in the morning there is a Wizz Air direct flight from Vienna to Split - $63 per person (plus fees - it's one of those "budget airlines."). It's about a 3 hour train ride to Vienna (or 2.5 hours direct bus to Vienna airport). I guess a cheap airport hotel in Vienna the night before might be an option.

If Split us just one stop in Croatia and among the others is Dubrovnik, then think about reversing the order and take Wizz to Podgirica and head north Budva, Kotor, Perast, Herceg Novi, Dubrovnik ...

If going by bus I would not take the direct overnight bus, but go via Zagreb. You can leave Budapest in the morning and be in Split in the evening. While not as scenic as the train the new motorway from Zagreb to Split has some scenic sections too.

I guess I would fly Ryan to Zadar. Depending on your luggage needs $100 to $200 a ticket. Unless everyone has a checked bag and a carryon ($200), then maybe I use Laszlo at SilverWings.hu. Might be cheaper, or no more and you get too see the country.
