I'm considering going on the RS Best of Eastern Europe tour next fall. The tour ends in Bled and I'd like to get to Bologna and, then, to Florence afterward. My options look fairly limited to a middle-of-the-night train. I'd appreciate any creative thinkers who might have a better idea. I'm open to making a stop on the way for a night or two.
Train from Bled Jezero to Nova Gorica.
Slovenian timetable: http://www.slo-zeleznice.si/ Once in Nova Gorica (pronounce: Nova Goritza) you need to cross the border into Italy to the Italian side of the city, which in Italian is called Gorizia, and reach the Gorizia Central station. The Nova Gorica station and the Gorizia station are connected by taxi or bus. Below is the timetable for the local (international) bus: http://www.aptgorizia.it/ProxyVFS.axd/Orario-linea-internazionale-Gorizia-Nova-Gorica-Inverno-2012-2013.pdf?rnode=13711&stream=allegato2|orig&ext=.pdf At the station in Gorizia you would take a train to Bologna or Florence, whichever you choose, which probably requires a change in Venezia Mestre. Thanks Roberto. I'm obviously trying to do something that doesn't make sense. Back to the map :-).
