What is the best mode of transportation (most direct, cheapest, easiest, all of the above) between these areas? Any info is welcome.
I'm not familiar with Malgret del Mar, but a quick wikipedia search shows me it's in Catalonia. Some years ago, travelling by train through France and Spain, I used Avignon as my departure point from France, entering Spain. It really was a convenient and comfortable trip from Avignon to Barcelona. I used the overnight sleeper train to save a night of hotel cost. Surely you can catch a connection at Barcelona to your final destination. ( For the record, I travelled in April and we were able to pay for two berths in a four-berth sleeper, and no one else shared the cabin during the whole trip.)
I assume you meant to type Malgrat de Mar.
You can take a Eurolines coach (highway bus) directly from Avignon to Barcelona Sants and then a Cercanias suburban rail train from Barcelona Sants to Malgrat de Mar.
Or you can take the train from Avignon to Barcelona Sants and then a Cercanias train. You cannot travel directly from Avignon to Barcelona by train and the routes vary depending upon the time of day. For complete timetables go to www.bahn.de. Click on the flag drop-down menu for English. After you get summary timetables for Avignon-Barcelona, click on the arrow to the left of each departure time to see the connecting points.
The Cercanias trains are not listed on the Bahn site. There are two trains/hour and the trip to Malgrat de Mar takes around 1hr25min.
Thank you so much!
