We want to do a day trip to Dusseldorf while we are in Amsterdam, what is the best way to accomplish this? I checked Eurrail with no luck and the Bahn requires an overnight stay.
I guess I just don't know how to navigate their website, everything I do comes up approx $216 Euro. any pointers?
"the Bahn requires an overnight stay" The Bahn requires an overnight stay for the Sparpreis 25 ticket, which gives a 25% discount, but not for the Sparpreis ticket. Using the Sparpreis fare and booking far enough in advance on the Bahn website you could get a fare as low as €39 per person round trip, but it's a popular route and the lowest fares sell out immediately. However, I was able to find €96 round trip for two for most dates.
"I checked Eurrail" Eurail (www.eurail.com) does not sell point-point tickets. I think you mean RailEurope. Note: RE's price for one way, one person in 2nd class is $94. The Bahn's standard fare, which is what you would pay at the counter over there, is €55,20, $81, with reservations, but with advance purchase, which is what you are doing with R/E anyway, the Bahn tickets are $39 one way per person, with reservations.
It's possible that you have picked a date for which all discount ticket have been sold (but I doubt it). For what date are you trying.
Thanks so much for your help, I was able to get it too.
