My husband and I purchase a Swiss Pass from Rick's website to travel in Switzerland. We will be there just for a couple of days and it is our first time in Europe. Can anybody help us understand how the Swiss Pass work? We are going from Geneva to Zermatt and from Zermatt to Milan. So how does it work, Do we just check the train schedules and get in them when it works for us or do we need to buy something else?
Also, do you know if the Italian portion of the trip is also covered by the Swiss Pass? I appreciate the help very much. I have done so much research that now I am overwhelmend with information. Thanks again.
You get it validated by a station agent before you use it the first time. He will write in the start date which controls the period of validity. Then you just get on the train, in the proper class for your pass ( first or second) and show the pass when the conductor comes around. If it is a Flex Pass instead of a Swiss Pass, you need to write the date in the little box on the pass before you board your first train that day. The Swiss Pass does not cover travel in Italy so you will have to buy a ticket for Milan. You can do this before departing Zermatt. Show your pass to the agent and he will adjust the price so you are just paying for the part in Italy, after the border.
My husband and I just returned from Switzerland..you are going to love it..so beautiful..the Swiss Pass was very easy to use..just be sure to write the dates in the squares provided on the pass...we purchased the 2 for 1 4 day flex and we were able to easily get the discount 1/2 price tickets for the time we traveled not using one of our days..you just need to show the ticket counter your pass...the Swiss make it very easy...
Thank you!
The Swiss Pass will cover you to Domodossola in Italy, but from there on you need to get a ticket for Milan. And from what I remember the train you take from Brig must stop in Domodossola, for the Swiss Pass to be valid, otherwise you need to buy a ticket from Brig to Milan.
