Is traveling by bus between cities in Italy an option? If so, has anyone tried it and do you know of a website? I'm traveling from Venice to Florence end of the month - right now via train am looking at middle of the night departure and arrival...trying to see if there are any other options that would actually allow one to get some sleep. I have 2 days to see both Florence & Venice - trying to maximize time.
we took a bus from bari to naples and it saved us almost 3 hours of travel time.
however italian bus companies are regionally based for the most part and do not cater so much to non-italian speaking ppl on their websites.
i found a company by googling the italian names of the destinations and adding the italian name for bus :"autobus"!
beyond that i'm no help, i wasn't able to book online - we just happened to see the bus ticket window as we arrived at the train station in Bari..
Rise early and catch an early am train to Florence from Venice. Be sure to get a reservation in advance, since this is a very popular route. If you catch a train around 7 or 8 am, you can get to Florence before noon and see a lot of countryside on the way. In advance have your Florence hotel make one or two museum reservations for you. That gives you the rest of the day and evening to "do" Florence.
We are flying into Venice from Miami Florida. We are looking into the same thing. Did you get an answer that help you. Then we want to go from Florence to Nice France. I've been to the bus website but they only have Italian
Thanks for all your help
