We are going to Salzburg and then Prague, but didn't realize that the train trip takes 7 hours! We checked out air fares and it;s about $1,200 for 3 people. Any other suggestions?
Only other option from Salzburg to Prague would be Salzburg-Munich-Prague.
Notice the transfer time at stations on the Salzburg to Prague run. Short tranfer times. Trains DO leave on time in Europe.
Thank you for your reply! We're considering renting a car that we can take to Prague.
Many car rental companies charge a hefty fee to pick up in one country and return in another. Additionally, some rental companies have restrictions about taking their cars into former Soviet bloc countries. Finally, if you are relying upon your credit card for CDW coverage, make sure that it will cover you in the Czech Republic, again the former Soviet bloc issue. Personally, I would just take the train, sit back, and relax.
I agree with Rick. Long trip but you can sit back and enjoy the scenery.
The direct train from Munich to Prague is 6 hours.
On a previous trip, my daughter and I drove from Salzburg to Vienna. Stayed a few nights in Vienna and asked the owners of the pension if we could leave our car at their place while we take a trip to Prague. This worked out great. Prague is a very large city to drive in. I would not suggest driving there.
