I am traveling with my family (kids 4&6) in May 2011 from Paris to Italy. We are staying in Rhadda for a week. What would be the best way to travel from Paris to Italy? I've taken a night train in the past, but don't know if that's the best way with young children?
Thx
Fly.
Since you're familiar with night trains, you will be the best judge of whether your kids would see an all-night ride as an adventure or an ordeal. If it will be just the three of you, you could book beds in a three-person sleeper on the Paris-Florence night train. Or if you book well in advance and get discount fares, for even less money you could book all four bunks in a four-person couchette. Doing that means you wouldn't have to share the couchette with a stranger.
Your best budget airline choice would be easyJet from Orly to Pisa.
You know your kids best but in the same situation, I'd fly. A train ride may be exciting, but not after the first 20 minutes.
We flew from Paris to Rome on easyjet. The best part was that we were in an early boarding category because we had a child with us. We were able to sit at the front of the plane, and didn't have to deal with the chaos of general boarding.
