Travel between London, Bath, and Manchester

My daughter will be studying in Lancaster next fall. We will be spending a week in London, 3 days in Bath, with our final destination to be Manchester. I am trying to figure out if it is cheaper and easier to travel from London to Bath, then to Manchester, or to travel roundtrip from London to Bath, then from London to Manchester. I'd appreciate any advice!!!
