We're departing Interlaken on August 31st at noon and traveling by train to Cincque Terre, arriving in Montorosso at 9pm. If we can't find a room in Montorossa is there a suggested point along the route to stay for the night??

Mark, In that situation, it would be a really good idea to pre-book a room in Monterosso, if at all possible. Have you considered leaving earlier in the day? It might help to be there early to "snag" any available vacancies? There appears to be a train departing Interlaken Ost at 07:29, arriving Monterosso at 15:02 (time 7H:33M, 2 changes in Spiez and Milan). Some of the trains on that route have as many as 5 changes and somewhat longer travel times. If you did want to stop at an intermediate point, one possibility might be Stresa? Happy travels!
