What is the best and cheapest way to travel for a student from Geneva to Paris? My son will be staying in Geneva for a month and would like to go to Paris for weekends.

The fastest way to travel between the two cities is by train. The hi-speed TGV takes 3.5 hours. You can check schedules and fares at the Swiss Rail website: www.sbb.ch/en Advance discount fares are typically less than $50USD round trip.

In trying to answer "best" and "cheap", do you want the best or the cheapest? There rarely is anything that is both the best and cheapest. The cheapest is probably a bus that should take most of the day. IMO, the best would be one of the few TGV runs with no train changes. There are other runs involving TGV trains but there are train changes on the run. The fastest runs can be 90 minutes faster than the other runs involving non-TGV trains (3.5hrs vs 5.0hrs). If your son has a Eurail pass, there will be a supplemental fee on the TGV.
