On June 30 I hope to be travelling from Barcelona to Aix en Provence to stay with another student before travelling to Nice for a few days on July 5. I have looked on the helpline and not seen any recent entries re recommendations for bus or train travel The route fro Barcelona to Aix sounds the most complcated. Also wondering if the regional train along the coast is the best way to get to and from Nice.

You can get to Aix-en-Provence by train or by bus from Barcelona. By train, its a 6hr45min trip if you take the 8:16 train. Later trains take longer. Two train changes on this run. Some later runs have up to 3 train changes. You may have difficulty purchasing this ticket from www.renfe.com. However, you can purchase this ticket at the Barcelona Sants train station. Just make sure that you go to the windows for future tickets (they have windows just for Today's tickets). Note also that they would not take our credit card for any part of the journey outside of Spain. We paid cash for this. We went as far a Nimes. Fare was about 110Euro. By bus, check out www.eurolines.com. I've seen the run from Barcelona Sants to Aix for 51Euro. It looks like an 8.0hr trip. I'm sure that there are bus changes along the way.
