Does anyone have any idea what the best way is to get from Montpellier to Prague? So far, train from Montpellier to Paris then flight to Prague seems possible but surely there must be a more efficient way to go. Your thoughts appreciated!
The search engine www.skyscanner.com suggests flying Lyon-Prague on easyJet. For Marseille-Prague it suggests flying Marseille-Madrid on Ryanair and then Madrid-Prague on Wizz Air. For Toulouse-Prague it suggests flying Toulouse-CDG on easyJet and then CDG-Prague also on easyJet.
Closer major airports in Toulouse, Marseilles, and Lyon.
Hi, If you intend to go by train for the whole route, you have to through Paris anyway. It's about what to do once you get to Paris in order to go east...to Strasbourg, Berlin, or Mannheim. Also. it depends on how much of a hurry you are in reaching Prague. The route less likely to booked up is Paris Est- Strasbourg. From Gare de Lyon to Gare de l'Est you can take bus #65 outside of the station, thus avoiding the Metro with luggage. (I've done this route). Take Paris Est to Strasbourg (night) to Dresden, transfer at Offenburg, from which it's a straight shot to Dresden Hbf, where you arrive at 08:14. From Dresden it's just 2 hrs to Prague, direct and frequent connections. Admittedly, this Montpellier-Paris-Strasbourg-Dresden-Prague route will use up two days if you are using a Pass, but you have lay over time at Paris Est and Dresden, assuming you are leaving Montpellier early in the morning for Paris. Another route possibility after arriving at Paris Lyon and going to Gare de l"Est is to take the direct night train to Berlin Hfb, from where you tranfer to Prague but this last leg takes at least 4 hrs. I assume that the route requiring transfering in Mannheim would most likely to be sold out since it's most direct. Depends mostly on your time constraint.
Nancy, Sorry, there is another way without having go all the way back to Paris Lyon and Paris Est, etc. Take the TGV from Montpellier to Lyon, which arrives at 10:16, (here you have a 2 hr. lay over), then TGV direct from Lyon to Strasbourg, arriving at 17:36. Then you have a 4 hr. lay over, dinner, seeing the town a bit, then Strasbourg to Prague (night train), departing at 21:52 with a short transfer at Offenburg to a CNL to Prague, arriving there at 10:25. This way avoids having to go up north.
