Travel Agent Recommendation for Train Reservations England France

RS website info is very helpful but I would prefer to work with someone to book our rail travel. Does anyone have a recommended travel agent that knows internal France and UK routes and France to England rail routes. Thank you.

I'm going to be no help whatsoever. AFAIK, train bookings aren't commisionable- the TA doesn't get a commission from the train companies. So IF you could find one willing to do it, they would charge for it.

With just a bit of research, and some questions here on the specific country forum, you can DIY just as easily as making your own flight bookings. Start by reading through the Man in Seat 61 website. https://www.seat61.com/
Then play around with the nationalrail, Eurostar, and SNCF (english) websites. If you have specific questions, there are regular posters on the forums who are extremely well versed on the subject.

Sounds like you would like some serious hand holding for your trip. Unfortunately, in the era of the internet and computers, the hand holders retired. I would suggest you get one of your grandchildren to help with the web site and computer aspect. It is fairly easy and simple once you understand it. Also contact the Rick Steves office directly, I think they have some trip planners that charge an hourly fee for assistance. There is only one train between France and England -- the Eurostar. Where do you want to go? Good luck.

Great advice from all of the above posters.

Check out your local AAA office. My sister is a member and she found a travel agent at the AAA office who booked her train tickets for her for Switzerland, Italy, France, England, including Eurostar over and back.

As all have suggested above, it is much preferable to learn to book your own tickets. Learn to use the appropriate apps or websites and become familiar with the routes or at least know how to quickly search the routes yourself.

If, and possibly when, something goes wrong - strike, repairs, change of schedule by the operating company - you will be several steps ahead in finding a resolution that works for your situation. Relying on a travel agent for resolution or even needing to find a physical office for re-booking help can be difficult.

During three recent European trips, last month, 9 months ago, and late 2022, I had to re-book train tickets in three different countries due to strike, schedule change by the RR, and weather delay en route. With the appropriate websites/apps/personal account, this was easily accomplished. These situations are more and more common. I have actually taken to always noting a Plan B for transport emergencies.

The Man recommends Railbookers and I happened to be on their site the other day, they have a lot of trips
