My husband and I will be in Paris for a week and then plan to go to giverny, vernon and maybe rouen and maybe auvers-sur-oise for a few days before I alone will be getting an a.m. flight from Chas de Gaulle airport. Husband then returns to Paris. Would it be more pleasant to rent a car and then go directly to the airport from these points and how long would that take? Or should we take the trains? If we are driving, would it be wiser to return to Paris the night before going to the airport?
Bits and pieces: 1. You can drive from the airport to Vernon in an hour. If you time it perfectly, it will take at least two by train and you have to make two changes. 2. Rouen is less than a hour up the road. I don't know how long the train takes, but it's probably about the same. 3. To get from either Rouen or Vernon to Auvers-sur-Oise / Pontoise, I THINK you have to go back into Paris to Gare Saint Lazare and switch trains. I don't know how long that would take. It's a thirty-minute drive. 4. Early in the morning you can drive from Auvers-sur-Oise to the airport faster (thirty minutes) than you can drive from central Paris to the airport (close to an hour). I'm GUESSING that the train would take a couple of hours with the dratted two changes. 5. I can't see any sense in going back to Paris if you're driving for the reasons implied above. Depending on your flight departure time, you might want to spend the night at one of the hotels near the airport (either one Roissy-en-France - just across the freeway - or one actually within the airport perimeter.
