trasportation form lake como to venice

We will visiting Lake como and staying at Varenna and/or Bellagio. Is it best to stay at Belagio and take a boat to como and the train from como to Milan and then venice OR stay at varenna and take the train from there to lecco through through brescia onto venice ( or back to Milan )? I realize there may be amny train changes so my thoughts are it would be quicker and easier como to Milan to venice instead of varenna to Milan to vencie. Please advise Grazie

Hourly train service from Varenna to Milano Centrale. One hour trip. From there, frequent trains to Venice. There is also frequent ferry service between Bellagio and Varenna. Its a short hop across the east leg of the lake. The route though Lecco to Brescia requires 2 to 3 train changes. You probably won't save any time or money going that route. http://www.trenord.it/it/home.aspx
