Transportation to Venice airport

Hi,

We have a 7am departure from VCE. What is the best way to get from our Airbnb to VCE at 4am?

Thanks!

Just do a SEARCH ( top of page) for "Early Venice departure"--- you will have several hours of reading available

We just caught a cab from the train station plaza to the airport. It is not very far. Problem with Venice is dealing with the luggage.

First, without knowing where your rental is, it's hard to give specific advice.

Second, a 07:00 departure usually indicates a flight to another European city, so no need to be there 3 hours ahead. In fact, the airport probably won't be open at 04:00. It usually gets going 04:30-04:45.

Generally speaking, you will have 3 options. The first, a water taxi, is fast, about 30 minutes from anywhere in Venice to the airport. It's expensive, however: at that time of morning it will cost at least €120, more if a larger group and/or lots of luggage. This will also drop you off a bit from the airport entrance, there is now a moving sidewalk to cover this.

Option 2 is get to Piazzale Roma (either walk or take the N vaporetto) and then take either the ACTV or ATVO bus from their to the airport. This will cost much less than a water taxi, and will drop you off right at the airport's front door. Depending on how far your rental is from Piazzale Roma, it will take some amount of time longer than a water taxi. The bus ride portion of this takes about 20 minutes in the early morning. You will also be toting your luggage around more, either walking to Piazzale Roma or getting on/off the vaporetto (not a big deal) and loading either under the bus (ATVO) or up into the bus with you (ACTV). The cost will depend on whether you have an ACTV transport pass to cover the vaporetto and bus, but figure €15 per person for vaporetto/bus combo, €8 per person if you're able to walk to Piazzale Roma.

Option 3 is the Alilaguna service. You would have to be staying somewhere near a stop serviced by the Blue line, and get the first boat that arrives at VCE a bit after 05:00. You would have the same walk to the airport's front door as you would if taking a water taxi. The cost is €15 per person. Depending on where you board, this can take a long time to get to the airport. Timetables for all of the above available online.

If you can afford the water taxi it is a once in a lifetime experience.

Putt putting through the canals and watching Venice wake up then speeding through the lagoon like you’re in a James Bond movie is pretty cool.
