How does one get to Stonehenge for the early inner cicle access pass or from Stonehenge after the evening pass? From what I can tell, the train schedule from London does not fit well for the 630 am, 8am or 630pm access times, along with the question of how to get to or from the station and the site? Any guidance?
Some travelers have slept the night before at Amesbury, 2 miles east of Stonehenge, to get to Stonehenge for the 0630 or 0800 times. That is probably not the only choice, but I don't know the schedule for the tourist hop on hop off bus that is the only way (these days) to get from Salisbury train station to Stonehenge, that is, I don't know if it operates early enough to get you to Stonehenge in time for the 0630 time slot (the Wilts & Dorset public bus stopped operating last year). I don't know the answer as to the 1830 time--because if you've taken the hop on hop off bus from the Salisbury train question, I don't know if that bus will be available to get you back to Salisbury, that time of the evening, so you can take the train from Salisbury back to London.
I was looking into the same thing during our stay in Salisbury. Here's the schedule for the hop on/hop off bus from the train station: http://www.thestonehengetour.info/times.shtml
As you can see, it doesn't work for the inner circle access. I guess a taxi hire from either Salisbury or Amesbury would be your only choice?
