Would it be better to take a tour directly from S.Hampton to Normandy or go to Paris and take a train from there to Bayoux?
Elly, It would help if you could provide some further information. Are you interested in visiting the D-Day beaches? How long do you have to spend in Normandy? Are you planning to do this as a day trip?
Mostly likely there are no tours from S. Hampton. It is long ways about six hours via ferry - only choice. It would be easier to reach the beaches from Paris via train.
I'm sorry, I disagree. 1:30 Southampton to Waterloo. Tube to St Pancras, there are no direct ones so a connection is required, 0:45 all in, including tickets etc., 2.5 hours Eurostar plus 0:30 minimum check in an hour across Paris
St Lazare to Bayeux 2 hours, trains only every 2 hours So what's that? 7.25 hours plus all the hassle. Ferry - Portsmouth Cherbourg is 4 hours, less to Caen. More on the slow ferries, OP's choice. Southampton to Portsmouth by train is 50 minutes, then a taxi to the boat. How is that 6 hours? How is that worse than the trek through London and Paris? Me? I'd take a book and relax on deck.
