I'm interested in taking an 8:30am flight out of Naples on a Sunday morning, September 29th and was wondering what is the best way to get to the airport from a hotel in the city? Do the trains run at 5:30am on Sundays? Should I plan to take a cab? Or should I book a hotel as close as I can to the Naples Airport for Saturday night and arrange for a shuttle? This is my first trip to Naples and I'm a woman traveling alone so security is important. Thanks!
Kim, Have you booked a hotel yet? I'd suggest asking the staff at your hotel to pre-book a Taxi for you on Sunday morning. That's the method I used on my last trip there, with departure at about 07:00. Some of the others in the group had left at 04:00, and I believe they used a Taxi also. I figured that the hotel would know which Taxi services were "reliable", so I wasn't worried about the "security" aspect. Happy travels!
No train to the airport. Take a taxi or the shuttle bus (from the port or the station). The taxi ride is no more than 15-20 min. from the city center. I'd take a taxi.
Hotels in Italy, particularly the cities, are used to getting taxis for people with early morning departures. When I was in Naples I was picked up at 5.15 am for a 6.00 am train departure to Rome and got there in plenty of time as the streets were empty. Just make sure you plan pick up to give you plenty of time to get through check in and security at the airport (2 hours for domestic flights, I think).
Thanks to all of you for the very helpful information!
One less thing to worry about! Ciao :-)
