Sure could use some guidence with train travel for my first time visit to Europe. We have an opportunity to spend 3 weeks with our base being an Apt in Haguenau France in The Alsace Region. We are fying into Frankfurt. Sept-25-Oct.15th We have hotel reservations in Paris for three days, Venice, Italy for three days, and Salzburg Austria for 3. We have 8 a day 5 country rail pass. Any suggestions on which trains to take to get us from Haguenau to Venice then on to Salzburg and back to Haguenau.?
I know we need to make reservations for the Paris part of Trip, not sure how to do the rest. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
What are the five countries? France, Ialy, Austria,?,?
Is Germany one of them? (Guess so, since you are flying into FRA.) That might make a difference on your Venice-Salzburg route, also Salzburg to Haguenau.
What about Paris to Venice? Is Switzerland one of them? If you are taking a night train from Paris to Venice, you might not need Switzerland.
You can find the best connections on the German Rail website.
Our 5 countries are Germany France Italy
Switzerland and Austria.
For Salzburg to Haguenau, there are a number of options, all seeming to go through Munich, with or without a change of trains. There are several 2 change connections with a Eurocity train from Salzburg to Stuttgart (stops in Munich but no change of trains there), then a TGV from Stuttgart to Strasbourg, and a regional train from Strasbourg to Haguenau. Those connections take about 7 hours.
