Transportation questions for Greece

Can anyone tell me if they have gotten a cab from the Port of Piraeus, (where our Cruise Ship is anchoring) to the Acropolis in Athens, Greece?? We are two Canadian women who believe we can do our own tour with a cab ride to the site??? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Forget the cab take the train. Rule in Athens is as a tourist DO NOT TAKE THE TAXIS!! They will rip you off. It is just a sad but true reality.

Don't bother seeing Pireaus. It is a port and thats it. Nothing more than the cruise ships.

The subway line 1 runs from Pireaus right to downtown athens and takes under 20 minutes. Cheap too. 2.90 euro for 24 hours of unlimited travel on all subway, buses and trams. Just buy the ticket right at the Pireaus office.

Line 1 Pireaus to Omonia and then transfer to the Line 2 red line towards Ag. Dimitrios, get off at Akropoli station.

Nice views of Athens for the entire ride, subway is above ground until entering Athens.

You can also Get off the green line at Thesseion or Monastiraki and go through the Ancient Agora and then head up to the Acropolis. This small tour will fill up about 2 hours.

Check our Rick Steve's Athens info on the site. He has a preplanned walking tour of Athens. Takes about 4-5 hours to see everthing in Athen

To add to previous post, the metro station is in a non-descript yellow brick building. I could have been missing it, but I never saw a metro sign on the building. Thankfully, some local folks pointed it out. And the ticket machines have an English option.

I agree, nothing to see in Piraeus. It is filthy and really just a segway to the ferries. I have been twice and have taken the subway/metro. Very easy and the Acropolis is easy to find and see on your own.
