We are staying in Colmar, FR as one of our stops this fall. We would like to do a side trip to Eguisheim. Obviously, not walkable and I don't see a train (that is how we are getting around). Looking for suggestions for transportation in this, and other, small cities. Do taxis exist? Is there some type of UBER? Thanks in advance!
They are very near each other. There should be a bus that will take you there. Some people rent bikes to ride between them.
If you're in Colmar by October 5 you could take Kutzig Tourist Bus. It makes a circuitous route through several wine villages.
There should be limited bus service when school is in session, but will probably not be convenient for your visit.
Otherwise taxi or bike or rent a car for the day.
If you would like a day tour of several villages, I can recommend
l''Alsaciette Tours. I took an excellent all day tour in October 2022. We visited several villages, a castle, a WWII memorial, a couple wineries and enjoyed a nice lunch.
If you are in Colmar for several days I would recommend renting a car. There are a lot of great villages and towns to see in the area. They are close by car and you can easily visit two per day.
Most of the small villages near Colmar do not have train stations. Turckheim is an exception.
There are public buses direct from Colmar train station to Eguisheim. Use google maps. Click on the bus symbol. It will give you the transportation options. You will need to change the leave time to around the time you will be traveling.
Thanks for the mention of Kutzig. For others who might be wondering, I just looked up the start date for the service and it was April 18 this year.
We used a combination of taxis and buses while we were there. If a bus was convenient, we took it. In some cases the infrequency was a problem so we’d get a taxi at the train station to a village and make arrangements to call the driver when we were done and he’d pick us up. Sometimes taxi to a village and bus back.
This is from my 2019 trip report:
“We reserved a village tour with Ophorus Excursions & Tours for the afternoon. Our half-day minivan tour to several small villages outside Colmar was very special. Our friendly guide briefly drove us to sites beyond the tour plan to thoroughly explain the significance of this area during WWII since it’s near the German border. His information, showing us bullet holes in stone building walls, and pointing out the American flag flown high up the hill at a memorial were very meaningful. He also provided lots of details about the wines & origins for this area. The villages were all so cute (he even drove us down to Eguisheim which was my favorite!), and with his time with us, it made an afternoon to be grateful, too.”
The tour didn’t originally have Eguisheim, but one of the couples requested it, so ask what’s available.
Thank you so much for all of the replies! This is very helpful. We were in Europe for the Christmas Markets, but pretty much only went where feet or a train could take us. Looking forward to "side trips" from a home base!
Google Maps shows a bus (68R030 ?) leaving the SNCF station (Gare) in Colmar and going to Pl. Charles de Gaulle in Eguisheim in about 18 minutes multiple times a day.
There’s a bus that runs every hour from Colmar’s Gare SNCF station. The bus line is 68R030 and stops in Eguisheim. The duration of the ride is approximately 15m.
Looking for suggestions for transportation in this, and other, small
cities.
Public bus schedule... Bus F, Mo-Sa service, 26 runs per day...
FROM: COLMAR - Gare SNCF
TO: EGUISHEIM (Erlen Ricoh stop)
It's a ride of roughly 15 minutes. Schedule is here:

That bus F does not go to Eguisheim. It goes to the Ricoh factory Erlen, from which you will have quite a walk.
You can indeed us bus 68R030, but that only runs a couple of times a day.
The bus ride to the Erlen Ricoh stop will indeed necessitate a walk of 25 minutes or so to the center of Eguisheim. But I see that as both inexpensive and walkable compared with the alternative taxi solution or just walking from Colmar (which is doubtless 60-70 minutes plus one way - to be done twice, of course - and which the OP has already labeled unwalkable.)
There's also the question of whether there are pavements (sidewalks) on the road into Eguisheim or if you'll be walking in the road.
Good to know about the extra walk. We are fine with walking, just not an hour or two one way! Thanks again for all of the feedback! So helpful!
I love the idea of a car service! I too am hoping this topic helps others. We love taking the trains, but really want to get out in the
countryside more on this trip.
Thanks all!
