hello all, anyone out there ever been to petra, jordan. i trying to find trustworthy transportation from aqaba to petra. i understand the taxi mafia once you've crossed the border at eilat can be pretty rude. can anyone out there help.

So someone's rude. So what. You aren't going on a date, or even having coffee. As tyrkur said, bargain and make sure the price is locked in. If you really don't like the driver, go to another one. If someone's rude to you or even very polite, you don't have any obligation to stay with him if you think the fare is too high. In fact all Jordanians I met were very pleasant - not always helpful, but always polite. On the other hand, Israelis are likely to be rude (as Westerners perceive it - we just say forthright), but are always helpful.
Try the Jordanian forum on tripadvisor.com for more info and an idea of what the fare should be.
Don't forget to buy dinars at the border crossing currency exchange. ATM's aren't always easy to find and US cards don't always work. (my personal experience 2 months ago)
